Education Programme

Ensemble Bash are skilled educationalists, whose experience and ability led them to being chosen as the featured artists in the BT/NFMS Making More of Music tour early on in their career (1995). The tour (comprising of twenty concerts and workshops) had the aim of encouraging access to music and the arts through an increased awareness of the role of music in the development of self expression.
Since those early days we have run hundreds of workshops all over the UK. Further afield we have had educational residencies at the Victoria College of Arts in Melbourne, and also run workshops in Ghana and Hong Kong.
Also, this year, we have started the Young Apprentice Artist Scheme (YAAS) - offering the chance to young conservatoire students the chance to play concerts, rehearse and be a member of the group for a period of six to twelve months. We are aiming to develop this much further in the coming years.

----------------------------

We were resident at summer school courses at both the Dartington and Aberystwyth International Summer Schools for many years - plus projects for COMA and numerous education projects around the UK.
There are many different types of workshop to choose from - from three hour schools workshops, week long community projects, masterclasses for young professionals, SEN projects and many more. Numbers of participants can range from single figures into the hundreds for collaborative performances.

------------------------------

Ensemble Bash have studied in Ghana with master musicians from The National Dance Company of Ghana and the legendary Pan African Orchestra. We're grateful to our teachers to be able to pass on this knowledge. With our Western heritage and training we have the ability to link African music with the most contemporary of music, without resorting to being token or patronising. This clearly has huge potential for outreach work.

-----------------------------------

For larger numbers the Ensemble Bash children’s concert, devised as ‘edutainment’, has also received wide acclaim for its audience participation and demonstrations of Latin American, Caribbean and African music.
This 'World Tour’ concert focuses on the music of West Africa and South America. Not only is the music of tremendous importance in its own right, but the linking of these musics, and drawing parallels between the two, brings in many extra-curricular points such as the slave trade and the music lines that can be traced around the world.
In addition, we have a workshop available for smaller numbers, 'Shake, rattle and Bash’ in which ethnic percussion styles and composition methods are explored. Both the workshop and concert are adaptable for all ages.
