Richard Benjafield



Richard was inspired to form Ensemble Bash after he studied with musicians from the Ghana Dance Ensemble at the University of Ghana.


This followed his studies at RNCM with Ian Wright, and at Tanglewood Music Centre with Frank Epstein and John Wyre. ‘A radical in the field of percussion" (BBC Music Magazine),


Richard has collaborated with composers including Steve Reich, Graham Fitkin, Harrison Birtwistle, Dobrinka Tabakova and Peter McGarr. He has performed extensively with London Sinfonietta, Colin Currie Group, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Nash Ensemble, Almeida Opera and Composers Ensemble, and made dozens of recordings including films, CD’s,TV and radio.


An experienced educator, Richard has taught many successful percussionists at the Guildhall School since 1995, where he is Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion.



Chris Brannick



Chris Brannick has been in demand as a solo and chamber percussionist for over 30 years and was one of the founder members of Ensemble Bash.


He is renowned as an inspirational workshop leader, running masterclasses, residences and courses in performance skills and he performs in cabaret shows, solo recitals and ukulele disco performances.


Chris is also an award-winning screenwriter and a published and performed playwright, and acts as part of the theatrical company Two Foolish.


He has a maths degree from Imperial College, London, an honorary degree from the Royal Academy of Music and a Masters’ Diploma in Executive Coaching.



Stephen Hiscock



Stephen’s a percussionist and composer and a founder member of Ensemble Bash


On drum kit he’s worked with artists such as Aimee Mann, Squeeze, Nanci Griffith and Mark Eitzel and, as a percussionist, with Steve Reich, Chick Corea, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Stewart Copeland and Evelyn Glennie amongst others.


He’s also works regularly as a musician and Musical Director at Shakespeare's Globe and the National Theatre and spent a stint on Broadway as a solo musician and composer with the international touring theatre company Complicite.


Stephen’s spent several long and enjoyable periods studying traditional drumming music in Ghana with Ensemble Bash.



Catherine Ring



Catherine is also a member of the critically acclaimed Colin Currie Group, with whom she appears on the Grammy nominated recording of Steve Reich’s ‘Music for 18 Musicians’.


Alongside this, she composes and performs across Europe with the nine piece roaming brass band Perhaps Contraption.


Catherine’s session musician playing includes Laura Karpman’s soundtrack for The Marvels movie.


Her orchestral and freelance work covers West End shows such as ‘The Lion King’ and orchestras including the Philharmonia, Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Paraorchestra, Rambert Dance Company and Aurora Orchestra.
